Why this style?

To support the theme of the series, we wanted to depict the juxtaposition implied by the title "A Weary World Rejoices." I pitched the idea of using urban scenery as a symbol of weariness and contrasting it with natural, lighter elements. This was where we became inspired by the credit sequence of the Percy Jackson Disney series (you should check out the BTS of that project here). We saw unique parallels in the themes of it's art style. The gilded decorative elements that are paired with illustrations based in a style that historically depicted scenes of industry and labor felt like a natural landing place for us to start working.

Two Styles in one package

The graphics package was split up into two: Pre-Christmas Eve and Christmas Eve. The graphics leading up to the holiday used the darker earth tones and the imagery of a city skyline while the style shifted for Christmas Eve to add a brighter, more jovial tone. This switch in styles marked the shift in the sermon content during the series. Before it was darker, focusing on heavier subjects, while Christmas Eve promoted feeling of peace, relief, and joy.

Bumper Video

A bumper video, which plays immediately before the Pastor takes the stage, was created to reinforce the themes of rejoicing in difficult seasons.

Composition

The majority of the scenes in the video were constructed in one large illustration. This helped make a more natural 'panning' motion that mimicked a camera looking over a mural.
